Collagen reviews

Hydrolysed collagen, or collagen peptides

Collagen is usually produced from the tissue of a particular animal species. Most often this is the skin, but bones and other tissue are frequently used to extract the proteins as well.

Through a gentle enzymatic process, hydrolysis, these protein molecules are broken down into shorter amino acid chains. Natural enzymes cut the long amino acid chains into shorter ones. This produces collagen peptides, also called hydrolysed collagen or collagen hydrolysate.

These smaller peptides are more readily absorbed by the intestines. In supplements this results in a powder that dissolves easily in almost any drink, so your daily serving is simple to take.

What makes Hūmen's collagen different?

Our beef collagen comes from the German pharmaceutical producer GELITA (VERISOL®), our fish collagen from the French producer Weishardt (NATICOL®). Both are type 1 collagen peptides, hydrolysed and 100% bioactive.

Because the ingredient brand is named on the packaging, you know which raw material you are buying, from which producer and in what dose. With powders that state only “hydrolysed collagen”, you do not.

A Hūmen jar contains 300 grams. At 10 grams a day that lasts about a month, at 5 grams a day two months.

Which collagen powder should I choose?

Beef collagen is obtained from the hides, cartilage and bones of cattle. Fish collagen comes from the skin and bones of fish.

In composition there is little between them: both are type 1 and hydrolysed. The choice is mostly about your diet and any allergies. A fish or shellfish allergy is more common than a beef allergy; if you don't eat meat, fish collagen is the logical choice.

What is the recommended daily amount?

During the twelve-week build-up phase we recommend 10 grams a day, which is two scoops. After that, 5 grams a day is enough.

Disclaimer
Food supplements are not a substitute for a varied diet and a healthy, active lifestyle.

What is the difference between Sea and Earth?

Sea and Earth refer to the source of the collagen. Hūmen Sea is fish collagen, Hūmen Earth is beef collagen. Both are produced from high-grade raw materials through a gentle enzymatic process.

If you don't eat meat, our fish collagen is the logical choice.

How does Hūmen compare to Oslo Skin Lab and RevitalTrax?

Our beef collagen contains the same ingredient as The Solution™ from Oslo Skin Lab and as the Anti-Aging Collagen Complex from RevitalTrax: VERISOL® by GELITA.

The difference is mainly in the price per gram of collagen. Ours is €0,07 during the buy one, get one free offer. Oslo Skin Lab is €0,60 and RevitalTrax €0,22, in both cases calculated with their best-value package. Point by point side by side: Hūmen vs. Oslo Skin Lab and Hūmen vs. RevitalTrax.

Is Hūmen collagen free from lactose, gluten and soy?

Yes. Both products consist of one ingredient: type 1 hydrolysed collagen. They contain no gluten, soy or lactose.
